CLASSES

POWERS OF ARREST & WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION

To obtain a security guard license, known as a security guard card, candidates must complete an eight-hour course of instruction. This class adheres to all requirements set forth by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.

EXPOSED FIREARMS PERMIT

To apply to carry a firearm while on duty as an armed security guard, candidates must complete a training course that meets all Bureau of Security and Investigative Services requirements. This two-day class includes a full day of lectures and a test at the conclusion of the first day; the second day takes place at Shooters Paradise, located at 1407 Colusa Hwy, Yuba City, CA 95993. Students are responsible for covering the range fees, which include ammunition, firearm rental, eye and ear protection, and targets.

BATON TRAINING CLASSES

Security guards are mandated to carry a baton while on duty. The course of instruction spans eight hours and adheres to the requirements established by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. Baton training includes a minimum of four hours of classroom instruction, culminating in a written examination. Additionally, there is an additional four hours dedicated to physical training, where students learn proper baton usage techniques such as blocking, swinging, and carrying. Students are required to demonstrate proficiency in using the baton in hand-to-hand combat scenarios.

OTHER REQUIRED TRAINING

Joseph Puccio Security & Investigative Services operates as a licensed security training center, led by Joseph Puccio, a retired California Police Officer with extensive experience in law enforcement training. Our courses meet Bureau of Security and Investigative Services standards and emphasize officer safety.

Training includes firearm proficiency assessments based on Bureau standards, with officers required to achieve a minimum score of 200 out of 250 on shooting qualifications. Training also covers electronic and chemical less-than-lethal weapons, aligned with California Peace Officers Standards and Training requirements. Officers must demonstrate understanding of laws, regulations, and civil liabilities related to less-than-lethal weapon deployment.

Handcuffing techniques are taught in conjunction with hand-to-hand combat methods used by public safety officers. Students engage in four hours of lecture and practical training with partners, including physical exercises. Our comprehensive classroom sessions feature DVDs, lectures, PowerPoint presentations, discussions, handouts, and demonstrations. Active participation in all aspects of training and discussions is mandatory, with written tests required for certain subjects.

Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential for all firearms and less-than-lethal weapons training, as officers must write grammatically correct reports following any weapon deployment. Reports are submitted to local law enforcement agencies and the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services as required.
